Bankersmith Texas Boil Shack & Sports Bar – Best Bar Food 4.6 Rating

Bankersmith Boil Shack & Sports Bar. Seafood – Sports Bar

Petting Zoo. Authentic Cajun Boil! Choose your heat and flavor! The place the locals (near and far) go for the best boiled Seafood and casual sports environment.

ankersmith is a ghost town in Gillespie County, TX. The town was founded in 1913. It lies approximately halfway between Fredericksburg and Comfort, near the border of Gillespie County.

Bankersmith originated in 1913 as a train station along the San Antonio, Fredericksburg and Northern Railway which served nearby Grapetown, Texas, running between Fredericksburg and Comfort.[3] The town and rail station drew its name of “Bankersmith” from Temple Doswell Smith, an important Fredericksburg bank president who financed the railroad. In the early 1940s, the railroad abandoned the line running through Bankersmith.

Old Route 9 / Old San Antonio Road is the first paved road running north into Fredericksburg, that ran through Bankersmith after the founding of the Bankersmith Train Station.

However the much later U.S. Route 87 did not pass through Bankersmith, it later on became an important alternative route between Fredericksburg and Comfort.

During the 1920s, Bankersmith reached its peak population of approximately 50. The post office was sometimes listed as being in Kendall County and sometimes listed in Gillespie County, depending on the abode of the current Postmaster. It was surrounded by a small business district which served the train station.[4] By the 1940s, the town was all but abandoned and the post office was gone—although some residents persisted into the 1960s.

As the town was located in the Texas Hill Country, it is near one of the few railroad tunnels in the state (the only railroad tunnel in Texas when it was constructed). The tunnel is 962 feet in length, took 6 months to dig, and cost $134,000 at the time.[3] The tunnel is now part of Old Tunnel State Park and the home to thousands of bats.[5] The Old Tunnel State Park provides an extensive amount of parking area for would be visitors, it is at the intersection of Old San Antonio Road and Alamo Road. Meanwhile, the southern end of the tunnel resides at 30°6’2″N and 98°49’15″W.

You ‘won’t leave hungry’ from Texas Testicle Festival next week in Fredericksburg

If bull testicles are your thing, you can grab a pair at this annual Hill Country festival and wash them down with an adult beverage.

The Texas Testicle Festival will serve up the delicacy, also known as Rocky Mountain oysters, on Jan. 14 at Bankersmith Hall near Fredericksburg. Along with the battered and fried animal testicles, the event will feature hamburgers and drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. The festival will also serve sweetbreads made from an animal’s pancreas.

“Paired nicely with some adult beverages (and a little bit of friendly ribbing), these things go down like butter,” organizers wrote on the event’s Facebook page.

Eating the testicles of farm animals like calves, lambs, roosters, turkeys and other animals is a tradition on ranches throughout Central Texas and the Western United States.

There will also be a testicle-eating competition with a $40 entry fee, which comes with a chance of winning a $100 prize and all the testicles you can eat during the competition with free beer to wash it down.

Those who aren’t as into the testicle thing can choose from pork chops, barbecue ribs, pulled pork sandwiches and actual oysters. Organizers said attendees “absolutely won’t leave hungry,” regardless of tastes.

The festival is selling tickets between $10 and $65. Best of Texas, an event company that hosts festivals around the Lone Star State, is the event organizer.

Fredericksburg Oyster Festival returns to ghost town down the road

In a ghost town at the edge of Gillespie County, the Fredericksburg Oyster Festival brings maritime meals to the Hill Country.

More than just “big, beautiful Texas oysters served raw” will feature at the event: drinks, dancing and “Bankersmith’s World Famous Burger” accompany the oysters — all scored by live local music acts from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The event occurs in Bankersmith, Texas — a saloon and dancehall 10 miles south of downtown Fredericksburg on 7905 Old San Antonio Road.

Bankersmith originated in 1913 as a train station between San Antonio and Fredericksburg, according to the saloon’s website.

The town became virtually abandoned in the 1940s, earning the “ghost town” moniker.

The town is also known for its former name — Bikinis — as it was purchased by the owner of the “breastaurant” chain, “Bikinis.” The ghost town reverted to Bankersmith in 2015.

General admission tickets are $10, excluding taxes and service fees. VIP passes into the event guarantee at least two dozen oysters and more if available, according to the event’s Eventbrite page.

Children under 10 enter free with a paying adult, and no ticket is eligible for refunds.

Baby Goat Cuddling and Wine Tour

This tour is for the guest looking to spend some quality time with our goat herd and the newborn babies. You will see, pet and cuddle with our herd of Nigerian and African Pygmy Goats. Each January until early spring our barn walls are popping with baby goats. Some mothers have three or more babies when the ‘kid’. These tiny bundles of joy are born instant acrobats and are so much fun to watch. The tour will last approximately 60 minutes. While not part of the tour, on your drive around our property you may also see alpacas, saanen goats, zebras, camels and more.

Is It Rain Or Shine? If it is raining, the Baby Goat Experience takes place inside the barn. The barn is not climate controlled, so be sure to dress appropriately for the weather.

What Should You Wear?

It’s important to dress fashionable for the goats. Not. Wear clothes that can get dirty. You’ll be in the pen with the baby goats, and they’ll be climbing all over you. The goats are pretty clean, but sometimes you will get dirt on your clothes.

Closed-toed shoes. Baby goats stepping on your bare toes hurts. Avoid that by wearing something other than flip-flops or sandals.

Hair ties, a hat, or a hoodie. If you have long hair, you need to be warned – baby goats love chewing on long hair. While it doesn’t usually damage your hair, it can get obnoxious. Putting it up in a bun solves most of your problems.

As few strings or tassels as possible. The goats love to nibble and nothing is more enticing than tassels, strings, and long shoelaces.

Other Details

Don’t forget to bring a camera! We love seeing your pictures. If you share them, please remember to use hashtag #GrapetownVineyard so we will be sure to see them.

No food, pets, or animals are permitted in the barn and baby goat pen. If you have a service dog, please contact us for more information.

Strollers are not allowed in the baby goat pen.

Adults must sign farm liability waiver forms for themselves and accompanied children.

Please ask in advance about large groups, school groups, or wheelchair accessibility.

Jacks Chophouse

Really enjoyed my meal last night at Jack’s Chophouse! Theresa took care of my table and had awesome recommendations for food and drinks. The bone marrow was some of the best I have ever had. Our ribeye was cooked to perfection and the candied Brussel sprouts lived up to the hype. Will be back soon to try happy hour!
