You ‘won’t leave hungry’ from Texas Testicle Festival next week in Fredericksburg

If bull testicles are your thing, you can grab a pair at this annual Hill Country festival and wash them down with an adult beverage.

The Texas Testicle Festival will serve up the delicacy, also known as Rocky Mountain oysters, on Jan. 14 at Bankersmith Hall near Fredericksburg. Along with the battered and fried animal testicles, the event will feature hamburgers and drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. The festival will also serve sweetbreads made from an animal’s pancreas.

“Paired nicely with some adult beverages (and a little bit of friendly ribbing), these things go down like butter,” organizers wrote on the event’s Facebook page.

Eating the testicles of farm animals like calves, lambs, roosters, turkeys and other animals is a tradition on ranches throughout Central Texas and the Western United States.

There will also be a testicle-eating competition with a $40 entry fee, which comes with a chance of winning a $100 prize and all the testicles you can eat during the competition with free beer to wash it down.

Those who aren’t as into the testicle thing can choose from pork chops, barbecue ribs, pulled pork sandwiches and actual oysters. Organizers said attendees “absolutely won’t leave hungry,” regardless of tastes.

The festival is selling tickets between $10 and $65. Best of Texas, an event company that hosts festivals around the Lone Star State, is the event organizer.

Fredericksburg Oyster Festival returns to ghost town down the road

In a ghost town at the edge of Gillespie County, the Fredericksburg Oyster Festival brings maritime meals to the Hill Country.

More than just “big, beautiful Texas oysters served raw” will feature at the event: drinks, dancing and “Bankersmith’s World Famous Burger” accompany the oysters — all scored by live local music acts from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The event occurs in Bankersmith, Texas — a saloon and dancehall 10 miles south of downtown Fredericksburg on 7905 Old San Antonio Road.

Bankersmith originated in 1913 as a train station between San Antonio and Fredericksburg, according to the saloon’s website.

The town became virtually abandoned in the 1940s, earning the “ghost town” moniker.

The town is also known for its former name — Bikinis — as it was purchased by the owner of the “breastaurant” chain, “Bikinis.” The ghost town reverted to Bankersmith in 2015.

General admission tickets are $10, excluding taxes and service fees. VIP passes into the event guarantee at least two dozen oysters and more if available, according to the event’s Eventbrite page.

Children under 10 enter free with a paying adult, and no ticket is eligible for refunds.
